not listed as open to publicHi,
Scunny Council garage used to do tests, not sure if they still do. Same thing though, they didn't do repairs so it was always a fair test.

There is normally a VOSA testing centre in most cities, im considering taking mine to the local when its due.
It'd have to be very bad to fail on welding, as there's not much money in that for the garage.

...people try their best to hide the faults, and if you find said hidden faults they stamp their feet and have a hissy fit too. People are already tense from the whole build up to the TEST, they do have a tendancy to go off like a bottle of pop when confronted with a faliure sheet...
though...
The return from the welding seems quite good from what i can tell in work. One example was 3 little patches and the bill was 95 quid. Probably 20 minutes to do.
How can you get 3 MOTs an hour out of 1 bay?
Minimum time for an MOT is 45 mins IIRC, so 1 car an hour if you're lucky
As Scott, place i had mine MOTed this year had 2 bays and at least 4 inspectors at any one time. There were 2 other cars being juggled while mine was being tested- car in front was on the rollers or emissions when mine was started (chassis # belts lights etc). As the one in front of me went onto the ramp for inspection mine went through brakes and emissions and the one behind was having having the easy bits checked.
Had it down to a finely choregraphed ballet.
I bet it gets interesting when one of the guys is a bit off/hungover and going slow. Entire thing must grind to a halt
Hi Scott. How did the car go in as a pass and come out a fail? Do you mean it still had some ticket?
Firstly i did clearly say 'best case scenario'. I know they have an allotted time pert MOT how exactly they work it in the case i gave im not sure but I did also say they have 2 guys. For example while one is say checking emissions the other is checking seat belts wipers etc and so forth. Now 2 guys at 20 min each = 40 min that equates to pretty much 3 cars per hour that's the 45 min time. If you like i will change it to 2.8 cars per hour what ever it works out at. How they work that with the regs with time scales i have no idea but they regularly do that amount of work in that time scale which is more or less = 3 cars per hour for a 2 man team.
Last time i used a commercial place the booking was before lunch. The car was taken in the roller shutter shut down. I was sent outside (Literally outside on a cold, windy and wet November day with my Dog also). Two hours later my car appears. I'm sure you can see i was happy as hell freezing cold and soaked through.
The car has to be logged onto the system for a minimum of 45mins, and I suspect each tester is only allowed to do 1 MOT at any one time
There is an MOT station near ish to here where I kinda know the guys, he had the test done after about 35mins so we had to twiddle our thumbs for 10min
That aint right, there are strict rules they have to stick to, there has to be a properly designated viewing area where you can sit and watch the tester do your vehicle
Hi Steve,
I think it did have a few days left on the ticket, but that's not what i meant. I meant the car was a MOT pass as in mechanically a MOT pass until they got it behind closed doors. Some stupid things like split wiper blades that were not split, One bulb gone that wasn't blown when it went in.
The worst was yet to come get this! One split flexi front brake pipe and the other side badly damaged. I don't need to say anymore on that. The nice fresh grubby hand prints gave away what had gone on behind closed doors. Plus a few other minor things that were not present when it entered there premises. The annoying thing was the pipes were pretty new about 2 months old. I did have one split and replaced both as a precaution.
That was the first and last time time ever i refused to pay someone, with the instruction to sue me if you want your money. The threat to report them was enough for them to hand over the keys fast. Opportunists that mistook me for a total pleb.
On research it became apparent this was common place for this set up to pull stunts like this. Say no more!
Kind regards,
Scott
