Disclaimer: To any electricians this is not aimed at you, just having a bad day and want a rant.
Getting quote to put in new 3 phase supply to one of my rentals for a commercial ( remember this bit ) kitchen.
Added up all appliances etc total comes to nearly 40 kw ( not all 3 phase equipment ) so 14kw per phase give or take so @ 380 V = 37 amps say 40 for safety + room to expand.
We are running 100m from power pole to building. Worked out voltage drop, got it checked by power company they agree 25mm2 copper cores would be best plus give some spare if required latter on ( max 60 amps ), supplied specs and asked for quotes from 3 electricians all came back with 16mm2 cable in their quotes. No I wanted 25mm2 cable, 2 replies 16mm2 aluminum and one 16mm2 copper, will be OK. It's not like the equipment will be running at the same time, urrrr yes it will, it's a commercial kitchen so there is a very good chance this will happen. They use very little power from 5 pm to 6 am but other wise flat out. This was all in the specs can't you read ?
Bearing in mind it costs more to mole drill under the main road then under my car park to the building than the cable costs and the difference between the 16 and 25mm2 cables is £200 ish.
I can't do the cable my self apparently as I'm not qualified. But some half wit who can't read can,( head bangs wall in the hope of a quick death..................... )
