Anyone recommend some hacksaw blades for home hobby use

starret or eclipse bimetal or hss depends on how careful u are without breaking them theres other makes that are just as good. it depends on price

As BS says, Eclipse are usually a sound, safe choice.

Ive got 2 hack saws and a pack of blades I decided to home trial in 1976....I have never changed the blades.........Admittedly they dont get a lot of use but they still do the job when needed....Eclipse

I don’t like bendy bimetal blades, but that’s probably because I done more than my fair share of cutting with hard HSS blades before trying them.

as said eclipse or starrett are my usual go to, cheep and good quality.

Are simonds any good? I recently bought 50 new old stock on ebay for £7, including postage. Bi-metal and made in USA. I've not had a chance to try them yet.

there files are good I use a dab of rocol on my blades
most times . it makes them cut faster and wear less

I bought loads of them from boot sales 20 years ago all hss for 20 pence each probably have 80 left . its rare that I break them probably go through about 6 a year using cutting compound on them just gotta be carefull cutting thin steel and tube

Ive got a mix of eclipse and starrett with 18/24 teeth, both are about as good as it gets but one is blue and the other is bright yellow. There’s another one I’ve got dark blue instead of eclipse light blue, maybe Irwin? Anyway I always know which saw I’m reaching for and if any of them break it’s always been my own fault or a badly looked after saw.

Not sure if available here in the UK, but for years my first choice has always been LENOX brand blades.

I believe they are owned by Spear & Jackson, ware the stuff is made who knows.
