R reidser Member Messages 17 May 3, 2013 #1 Hi, I'm looking the owners of the above welders experiences of welding 5mm. I'll mainly be doing 3 - 4mm welding but may require 5mm which I think the 162 will struggle. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

For occasional decorative stuff like railings etc it should manage ok but for strength critical I think a little extra power would be nice to have. Have you considered the Portamig 185? costlier but offering you a better top end of power and not being thrashed at your requirements.
