Quite popular with manufacturer approved bodyshops but, let's face it, nothing French sells well in UK.
GYS UK support is (apparently) great, I've never needed it despite owning several GYS machines over the last few years.
I first came across the brand when I had the task of taking a few bits of broken but critical aluminium to a French Engr. workshop to get them welded. REME could only (were only equipped to) weld steel at the time.

My only experience of this brand was a GYS mini arc welder I got broken for free and repaired myself. It was good build quality IMO

I think French made is bound to be preferable over China stuff.

There is a lot more French built stuff in their current catalogue than previously.

It is marked made in France.

From what I understand GYS should generally be ok, they just aren't really known outside of bodyshops. Some of the products are now made in China though. I was looking at one of their cheaper dent pullers and most pictures showed "made in France" but I found newer documents/images did not say or said made in China

I think any confusion may be due to items that were previously made in China now being made in France but still have the same model number.

I am always interested in questions about GYS and the comments from those that know us a little, thank you for this input. GYS has grown a lot in recent years it can be difficult for perceptions to match the latest situation. Often people are surprised to learn the extent of GYS operations. I hope it is interesting if I share some facts and information on the GYS Group for 2023.



GYS operates a factory in Laval, France employing more than 600 people. We manufacture Welding and Plasma cutting equipment, more than 100 machines in the range, as well as Car Body Repair welding equipment, MIG, Pulse MIG, Spot Welding , Dent Pulling and Riveting, Induction heating equipment and Battery Chargers.



Regarding the comments on Bodyshops this is also interesting as although GYS are the leading company in the world in this sector the GYS welding division is actually much larger. In terms of manufacturing we believe GYS now produce more welding machines in Europe than any other company and our R&D in France is one of the largest in welding in the world today. In the last few years GYS has developed some very advanced machines, Neopulse ( 400A/500A Pulse MIG) Titanium AC/ DC which offer some very interesting and advanced features. In the last 2 years GYS have expanded into a the area of Automated Welding and our machines are now being integrated with the well-known globally known Robot makers.



We also own a small manufacturing plant in Shanghai (100 staff) which manufactures lower specification charging and welding machines, as well as selling Made in France products in China.



In the UK GYS operate a full sales and service subsidiary in Rugby employing 45 staff. We hold over £2million of product in stock as well as holding spares in the UK with an aftersales team of 5. We also operate similar subsidiaries in Germany, Italy and Spain and distribute to more than 100 countries around the world.

What is that catalogue from?

I was only ever using Australian sites and they never seemed to list where anything was made, I was relying on the pictures mostly.
