Gurgling...!

Utiity room..When the washing machine empties the sink gurgles like a hungry giant.
WM is the grey flexi pipe on the left, at the absolute limit on its length.
There's scope to lower the trap as the black waste drops vertically for 400mm or so before disapearing under the base of the unit.
Looking at the Macalpine non return valves, they are deigned to be used horizontally.
Any bright ideas?

it will gurgle for fun when you connect 2 outputs into one

hence why you use anti vac traps on sinks and baths for the same very reason otherwise it will suck the water out of the trap

my advice tee it off lower fit another trap from the t piece and continue straight up to your trap that you have fitted already there

I found this that would work.

Or, looking again at the pic, I could take the tee off, put the trap straight onto the bottom of the sink outlet and extend the black waste upwards. I could tee in under the trap for the washing machine waste.

The WM wouldnt be trapped, but does this matter?....

Hmm our sink setup looks similar. Also the left, small sink, stinks, when any water goes down it and produces foul smells. The right sink does not

Done by Wickes. Occasionally the back garden floods (blocking storm drain), so I lift the kitchen drain cover slightly, allowing rain into kitchen sewer. The kitchen sink is loud when I do that.

you would need an antivac trap to the sink waste

then id get a washing machine t piece

Used to connect a washing machine, dishwasher, etc to a waste pipe(spigot/nozzle can be turned in any direction).

and extend up in plastic pipe to reconnect the waste again

theres no smells

if you try with what you have already you may get the issue of the sink being drained of water due to them connected together

The grey hose comes out of the bottom of the washing machine. It goes up the back of the washing machine and into the trap.

The pump in the machine cannot pump air, so there is always water in the grey hose and smells cannot get into the w/m via that route.

Your grey flexi pipe should have a decent dip in it, which does serve as
a foul smell trap (aka siphon).

Can you turn the bottom of the trap round a bit and the black elbow to allow room for a gurgle master?

Failing that, I'd just buy an anti gurgle trap.did for ours where dishwasher and washing machine both come into it.

Just googled them..but the WM would still discharge above it which is what causes the noise out of the plug hole

Ours came from Germany...I think it has a vent to prevent the gurgle....need to double check.

Can you rejig the fittings so your WM tee is after the sink trap? That's how mine is plumbed and it doesn't gurgle

when 2 pipes are connected together you will always have

gurgerling or water being sucked out of the trap

the only cure is either have the drainage water run out on its own pipes or fit an anti vac

the 2 sink types suffer from gurgerling often because they are connected together into one drain out point

I think Franke do them with a vertical vent but you'd need to check (plenty of them on eBay).

The German ones go straight back to the wall with the "U" further down...a lot nearer and frees up the shelf so can have a proper shelf instead of a cupboard with a trap in the way!
