I think our local fao is a bit picky sometimes, if I can relock it without it looking a lashup it should be fine.

If not, it'll be a better solution for my unscoped air rifles (currently in a wooden cabinet, which is passable but a bit big and I cba to alter it).

my air rifle is chained to the rail in the wardrobe...feo that came out looked right at the air rifle and didnt even check it was actually secure, didnt even mention it.

we have one feo here that is a nightmare...if an appointment is made with him we all accept the hit and cancel and wait for someone else

I have an old side by side made by Hinton in Taunton, It must be well over a hundred years old, i knock a lot of clays with it, and its great fun upstaging the guy with the 5 grand perazzi, beretta or blaser, by a fair margin. Some of them get pretty sore about it . So don't fall into the trap of thinking the more you spend the better you will be.

Make sure when you fit the cabinet, it is obviously fitted to an outside wall, with suitable fixings. Mine is on what was an outside wall, but the house has been extended, so its now an inside wall. The last guy to come was abit anal about it, suggesting i move it. Didnt seem bright enough to understsnd a 2 foot thick stone internal wall may have been plaster boarded, and in places sounded hollow. In the end I showed him the house plans from the work, ihe went away happy.

It must meet the standards your force specify for your level of risk.
So it's up to the feo and head of dept
If they really wanted to they could tell you to store a working part at your local cop shop

Not normal at all but just saying don't fit cheap second hand stuff or build your own without agreement to spec.

These things are not very expensive. You just couldn't make one to the same spec as sold new today for less

Not sure but from what I've heard they are a very good action. If your lucky some of the guns come with lovely walnut stocks.

Have things changed then?, when I had my first FAC (about 1990) I lived in a terraced house and fitted the cabs to a party brick wall without any problems. Or would that be classed as an outside wall?.

I think some like an outside wall since it's so popular for internal walls to be stud and plasterboard.

This was a 1900s house so everything, including all the internal walls were brick

When I started out I bought myself a Lamber o/u. Nothing exciting but a good reliable gun for the money. Must admit, I haven't been shooting for over a year now, really must get it out and miss a few clays

aye mine was fixed to the internal wall, but it was the central stair case of the apartment block, reinforced concrete, the polis had no isse with it. I think it's more to do with a secure fixing than the location of the wall itself.

it is bassically exactly what miroku started doing with brownings before they became partners...i doubt it will be too loing before berreta ake the same move and start churning out cheaper 686's from the lesser known factory

the actual wording is that a cabinet must be fitted directly to the fabric of the building...so anything concrete or brick...mine is on a stud and plaster wall but i have long bolts going right through to the breeze bloc (was a thread on here about my issues with fitting a new ammo safe and getting poor holes)

Miroku were building the cheaper brownings for years, being japanese they were very good kit. The only problem i had with them was the awful wood, no figure or colour to it at all.

its not an external wall per say, its a wall constructed of brick or concrete which nowadays is usually only an external, most internal walls are stud partitions, if you do have internal brick walls then fixing your cabinets to them is fine, my cabinets were fixed to the roof joists in the loft which the feo had no probs with.
