Unbelievable! Sane guy who bought my table saw and left unhappy at £50 has it up on Gumtree for £100

Good luck to him but shows you that some of these guys who come looking stuff for nothing may be flippers

Someone did that to me up here with a toolbox.

Messaged him when I saw it online and said id found the spare key. He could have it for £20 never replied!!

Offer him £40, tell him, it's all its worth. From a different user account obviously.

That’s what annoyed me about the bloke and my toolbox.

Wasted over an hour with some stupid story about his grandson needing it for his apprenticeship and could I help him out. I didn’t budge and he paid what I asked, which I was happy with. Couldn’t give a **Language** what he does with it when it’s his.

Just hate having my time wasted and being lied to.

Yeah it's funny isn't it I really don't care anyway if he wants to and makes a few £ I wanted the space back and got it back.

Also if he wants to make money he's doing it wrong!! Probably spent £15 in diesel and an hour collecting it. I mean why bother at that rate.

As an example on when to bother- I bought a stove for £100 on Gumtree and sold it for £450 cash a few days later (That buyer was a gentleman and still got a great deal) rrp on this stove is £2700odd.

I bought some sh1te Sip mig, with a spool gun, professionally plumbed in for £100 on a whim last year, absolute crap, I'll pass it on, but for what I paid for it, gas alone will cost you more.

It does kind of do its job, but it's a bit pants if you've got a tig.

Very true. I sold a small collection of kids motorbikes last month (2 complete + 75% of a spares bike, all needing attention). They were priced cheap as a joblot for £500. Chap rings and offers £450 - I refuse and he agrees to pay £500. He collects them then explains he will be restoring them, the first one he restores will pay his costs, the next 2 will be his profit. That I don't mind - but asking for £50 off when he knew they were priced cheap was a cheek.

I was looking at a campervan last summer, it had problems, the lass had bought it without having it checked over and been ripped off, she was losing money but going overseas so had to sell. I got offered it for £2k and was tempted but decided I didn't need another project. She sold it - it was advertised a week later for £6k (not enough time to fix any of the major faults) - obviously by a flipper hoping to find another trusting / mug buyer.

A friend is very into the campervan lifestyle, she and her mates often see wrecks bought cheap with faults and advertised very soon after with very little work done apart from a polish and flash-over paintjob. Sad times

Edit: I sold 2 old desktop computers last week for £10 - useful for parts at least. Chap offers £5 which I accept,he then tells me he recycles them for worthy causes so I added some extra bits that I had no use for. He mentioned he also took scrap so as he was leaving I gave him an old towbar - it saved me taking it to the tip. I explained somebody had said they were coming to buy a pile of scrap copper and I would have given them the towbar as a bonus - their loss. Chap very keenly says he can take scrap copper away for me if I just want if gone. About 20kg (£60 ?) of new & used copper plumbing bits - he was disappointed when I told him they weren't free. His words: "people normally give me stuff because it's for a good cause"

I knew a chap in the 70's that used to buy cheap cars, a quick blow over and sell for a profit. I once asked him why he called it "knacker lacquer" he said it starts to peel off after a few weeks

Also in my own defence for flipping the stove

I bought it at full asking price no haggling based on grainy photos and was going to use it in my garage.

Then when I looked closer after getting it home I realised it was way to premium a stove to abuse in my garage and I didn't have space to store it either so off it went.

Of course they are that's why they want it for nothing , youv'e got to think of the profit margins ! there's nothing wrong with flipping something if you know it's worth more and are a good buyer , ive paid some one more for an item on a couple occasions as it was just to cheap .

I love to haggle.

But. I always intend to buy the item, have the money and show up when I say I will.

Those three things are often missing with 70% of people who show interest in anything I am selling.

Had a similar experience some months back with a Clarke pro90 Mig welder I had.
It had issues so I decide to get rid…Up for sale at £75, got offered £60, which I accepted, following week up for sale at £180….after watching it for a few weeks, the price came down gradually to around £140…then disappeared, I guess it got sold on…

It becomes more annoying when they haggle to the end knowing they are going to flip it anyway.

I'd presepct a buyer alot more if they said "I buy and sell these and my offer is x- let me know if that works for you as its where I need to be".

But pretending to buy it for personal use that kind of p'd me off here on this saw sale - but aw well I have alot more bigger things to be annoyed about at the same time!

Don't let other peoples lack of principles/morals get to you. The only thing that matters is how you behave. As long as you can sleep easily knowing that you make best efforts, flotsam is irrelevant.
