Guilty Confession....

Gents, I'm afraid I have to report a moment of weakness earlier, let me set the scene.

There I am looking at all the different options for cutting up the box section for my new welding bench, I already have grinders and the basics, but was torn between buying an abrasive cut off saw or rage 3.

Well whilst browsing the Axminster site it all went wrong....credit card met computer and I am soon to be the proud owner of this little baby:

But it gets worse.....£15 delivery for Saturday.....well better make it worth it, so on went one of these as well

Nice, Axminster isnt always the cheapest place, but customer service is good.

The 'white' range is pretty good stuff i believe, look forward to hearing about it

The advantage of haveing a workshop on a farm

Lol, guys you'll be thoroughly disappointed to hear that I just told her straight (the girlfriend that is, which makes it a little easier). Although I did sweeten things a little with a bunch of Morrisons Finest Flowers (half price ).

My new toys arrived pomptly today at 9am in 3 huge boxes! Initial impressions were not great as I proceeded to put the Bandsaw together. The base cabinet looks like its been recycled from a 2CV, it has rust seeping thru the awful paint work! clearly there is no quality control on the stand. Things did improve a little once i'd got it put together and lifted the hefty 60kg's of bandsaw onto it.

First impressions of the saw itself are that its obiously of far easter decent, and built to a price (well what do you expect for £270). However it does seem solid, and after setting it up to run true I put the first of two 6m lengths of 50x50 Box through it. It cuts quickly, cleanly and accurately which I'm very impressed with. The most annoying thing so far is that it seems to stall just as it breaks through the bottom of the cut, either the drive belt is slipping or the blades slipping on the wheel, I shall investigate further.

I also got my pillar drill assembled, this thing is heavy! Was my first impression as I helped the courier unload all 90kg of it. Really quick to put together, and much to my surprise much better finished than the bandsaw, it has much better instructions (even with a hint of comedy in them). Putting it together took around 30mins, the hardest bit was lifting the very heavy motor& headstock into place, thats a serious lump. However once everythings in place it feels very solid and is easily adjustabe. The built in worklight is a nice touch, and the keyless chuck to my surprise feels like a quality piece, time will tell. To give it a quick run I put some 8mm holes through some box section, like a hit knife through butter. The size of the motor on this thing is huge, it claims to be 0.5kw, I reckon its more like 1kw, its twice the size of the 500w motor on the bandsaw! Its also very quiet, and smooth running.

If the bandsaw blade is getting stuck at the end of its cut then maybe you have set the hydraulic feed to fast which can happen to even the best of bandsaws, or you just need to tension the blade a little more.
