GRP coated plywood, anyone have a decent priced source?

As per the title, last year I bought a small brendup trailer but the rear door is a little sad, the previous owner really screwed it up and its broken through where the handles go. Does anyone know where I can aquire the white GRP plywood thats used on box trailer bodies? I have looked about but all I can find is buffalo board style or companies that sell it by the bulk and I only really need 1 sheet of it.

Any help or advice is welcome (including other materials just trying to get it working before camping season!

Quick google search. never used them, no Idea on price, but it's a start for you. Or try a commercial vehicle breakers

There is nowhere to buy it at a decent price.
About the smallest sheets I know of are £300 or so.

I can look up the stockist details if you like but they normally charge £100 for delivery as well!!

Cheaper options - get your own ply and coat it with Fibreglass yourself. You will what a sheet of covered board or something to get a smooth finish though and by the time you have finished doing it you will wish you had paid £400 and just bought a sheet.

Although, for long life you need to re-seal the edges once you have cut it so you will be getting messy with Fibreglass or sealer anyway!

Or, If you are anywear near Somerset let me know what size you need.
Some of the bits we remove are massive and are only damaged in one place or rotten along one edge so you could probably cut a decent size sheet out of one of those.

I tried it.
It's not worth it.
Especially when you look at the price of decent ply for the core anyway.

I think part of the reason the coated ply is so expensive is that not many places make it or stock it now.
Most of the transport industry has moved onto foam or honeycombe core now.
That stuff would probably work fine for you if you can find that any easier/cheaper.
You do need special bolts for it (and they are expensive as well)
You are supposed to use special bolts for the ply coated as well although you might well get away with normal ones in your application.
I have got the bolts if you only need a few as they are only sold in packs of 200 as well!!

Thanks all, I might just go a sheet of ply and paint it well!, the trailer lives inside so will only get wet on camp and while working and for a trailer that cost me £300 spending £400 on the door seems maybe a little over the top? and thanks for the offer @hotponyshoes but I'm in Essex so will pass on your offer but am grateful for it.

Not sure that the foam or honeycomb will work as the door is also a ramp and so I wonder if it will have the strength to take the potental weight of a couple of scout leaders carrying kit in and out...!

For my trailer floor I used a sheet of cheap ply and gave it liberal coats of epoxy resin. Applied with a roller and used a brush to work into the edges. No need to use cloth.
Looks amazing but will be hidden under a sheet of checkerplate - at least it should never rot.

I see you are in essex, How much do you need & what size? A bloke on the farm where i had my old workshop used to clear all the offcuts from the factory that made it so there was mountains of it kicking about, He did a roaring trade in it for years. I saw some a month back up my mates scrap yard on the same farm. Probably the last of it! Let me know & i can see if there is owt that will do

alternative is

baltic birch or hardwood plyboard coated with roofing grp coloured white

No read all posts but I used phenolic boards and painted them or PU foam.amd laminated them.up. Two 650 laminations both sides and its solid for a ramp with an ally frame. Cheap aswell.

And when you have finished with the re building. Arm the scouts with paint brushes and any old paint you can get hold of, Then paint it all over (and the wheels) the most garish paint scheme you can. Cheap Anti theft devise.

Service Metals sell it by the foot (from an 8ft tall panel) from memory it's about £25-30ex vat per foot, the minimum size might be 8ft tho , sold as a bulkhead for truck bodies. Might be worth giving your local depot a call tho, they might have smaller pieces left over that they'll sell for a lower price...if they're local enough could collect to save on the delivery cost

They also do GRP/plywood core 'door blanks' that are meant for rear doors on truck bodies, can get those as an 8*4 sheet but more expensive and less choice on thickness

not 100% but I'd imagine Aalco would do the same or anyone else that sells GRP box system parts...there's John Adams up here, probably quite a few others south

You could face an ordinary sheet of ply with a sheet of Dibond (White faced Ali/acylic composit about 3mm thick) , loads of S/H stuff about for between £10/£15 a sheet. I used it in the mancave.
