Is there any good grout cleaner which works well, (in a kitchen, so it's yellowed in places), or it it a case of chopping the old out & regrouting?

If you clean it you can then use a grout pen to colour it.

Oven cleaner, I'm told. But if you leave it too long it softens the grout.

Be careful what you scrub it with too, e.g. scorchbrite/brillo etc. I always use the sponges with the white scorchbrite type stuff on them.

Never used a grout pen before, but seen other people's handiwork with them. Looks like someone's gone over the grout with a transit diamond white touchup kit.

Cillit Bang Black Mould Remover might well work. It takes several applications at the start, and does a pretty good job on shower tile grout and silicone sealant, bringing it back to near enough good as new. Maintenance probably involves one application every few months. The product is bleach-based, so care needs to be taken regarding overspray onto metals and fabrics. There are other makes on the market, such as Astonish Mould and Mildew Remover. Look for 2.5% sodium hypochlorite on the ingredients list.

I concur.
I use a combination of grout rakes (wide and narrow) a fine carbide blade on a multi tool and one of these.

Bought to test on a difficult regrout job. Worked well.

my choice for grout is mid grey..my theory is if it already looks dirty you won't see the dirt.

That was my first thought. However, this is for the work kitchen, & there are a lot of tiles. Plus, I'm also limited to what times I can do the work, for obvious reasons.

Cheap bleach and loads of elbow grease should bring it back uk to reasonable condition...at least that’s what my mum and aunties have done in years ! They do have a bit of OCD, sadly it didn’t filter down to me !

done this to our bathroom loads of times neat beach and a wallpaper steamer with one of those hard brush ends

does not come up like new as the bleach seams to discolour it a shade or 2 but if you do the whloe lot it dont notice and looks great at the end only thing it will not get rid of is mold stains

and its quick 2 do our bathroom 2 walls half hour as you only need to go over the joints they are big tiles 8x6 inch so more grout bit more time

even gets rid of hair die as the bathroom grout had some on

I've used descaler with some success. Problem being the bit you've done then looks so clean compared to the rest . . .
