Get yourself a couple of cheap ones next time Aldi/Lidl etc have them on offer, keep the reciept for 3 year warranty but they do seem to stand a lot of abuse!

Its still in warrenty so Machine Mart are collecting it and sending it back to DeWalt for inspection to see if there is a manufacturing fault.
What counts as a manufacturing fault though? I've hardly used it, and when I have I always make sure I am taking it easy, not letting the RPM's drop by pressing too hard and I use the right disc for the job.
If its burnt out is that my fault?
Its not costing me anything, so its worth sending back anyway.

Yes, electric or air powered air files are good tools for getting into tight spaces and accurately grinding down welds. I have one of these and it works pretty well, although the Sealey ones they have at college are better.
(Don't get the Clark 10mm belts, they are expensive and rubbish, the toolstation 10mm belts better but cheap and don't last long at all. 3M 10mm x 330 sanding belts- very good.)
The grinders gone back to DeWalt today, but after reading a bit on the Internet, it seems that the brushes are servicable parts and the grinder can cut out if the brushes are too low to protect the motor.
I didn't realsie that and the guy at Machine Mart didn't mention anything about that, so DeWalt might send it back saying it needs new brushes (£4.80 on a website somewhere), if its not that then its probably a manufacturing problem in which place it should be replaced.
So maybe all isn't lost after all

i might sound a bit stupid here mate but i dont think anyone has mentioned it, those flap disks come in 2 different sizes, for the shaft of a grinder so make sure you order the correct ones to fit your machine. I only know cos a mate got me some from work and the centres were to small for my makita and my bosch grinders

Grinders usually take years of use and abuse before they wear their brushes out! I usually find the mains lead gets damaged before the brushes wear! If the grinder is new and in warranty then it is likely to be a manufacturing fault.

Had both my grinders for about 6-7 yrs now and they are used 6 days a week minimum, only had to replace the brushes in the makita once, about 3 yrs ago, and both are still perfect working order

Probably as much a testament to how you look after your tools as it is to the quality of the grinders.
Is sent 4 away today for repair, broken over a period of about 6 months. Lads came back with another knackered one tonight.
Spend a bit more & get 5X the performance/longevity. Not really that clued up on power tools but it seems to me that all the "Big names" are within a couple of quid or so of each other on price...ie.Bosch, Makita, Dewalt etc....which means they are all made in China. Spend the extra bucks for one thats made in Germany (Metabo?) and they will keep on going. False economy cheap power tools.

Here's a pic of the finish using one...the pic has made the finish look very scratched but it's not as bad as it looks
The bottom tube is as welded. The middle one is the weld gone over with an 80 grit sanding disc without backing pad ( disc is 1mm thick). The top one is after it's been gone over with a medium polishing disc.
The white bit on the 80 grit disc is just where the abrasive has worn off.
I bought one of them that went onto a angle grinder. Pretty good and super handy when it was new, but after a few hours the drive sprocket wore out being made of the wrong material (thermosoftening plastic, it got warm in use and the teeth just rolled off). I was going to turn a new sprocket out of delrin or something, but looked at the rest of the build quality and thought "whats the point" and consigned it to the failed crap tools bin.
So I'd definitely go for one, but next time a decent air or intergrated electric one, rather than a add on kit if anyone was thinking of going that way.

I've never heard of a finger belt sander that fitted onto an angle grinder!!! Do you have a pic or a link?
