grinder has finally died

my b and q performance power grinder has finally kicked the bucket.

its lasted nearly 3 years of hard abuse, its been left in the rain for a fortnight, dropped off ladders and out of the van, but today halfway through cutting some 6mm plate it started to smoke then shortly after it refused to turn.

now i am in need of a new grinder, as cheap as possible whilst also being better than the bog standard 12 quid units as i cant see them standing up to much of the abuse i give them. Not worried about anything like switch position and i think the one i have just killed is 600w although cant quite remember and i cant read the specs anymore either.

anyone got any suggestions? Preferably below 40 quud

cheers for the link. Ive just found a blue Bosch 600 GWS in Screwfix for 34.99.

are the blue Bosch any good? My father has been through 2 green ones in the last year

the bosch blue products are the professional range all come with a 3 year warranty - i have an angle grinder and big abrasive all fine and a really old green drill which refuses to die

only complaint about the 115mm grinder is its girth, its fairly wide for a single hand not bad but if you have small hands something to think about, in comparison i used a makita at work and it was nice and slim probably not as powerful but more comfortable

Likewise - it's my permanent cutting disc grinder. Another reply has commented on the girth of a Bosch grinder and I would also say the ame about a Draper one that I have but the Hitachi fits my small hands well and is not too heavy.

Blue Bosch is Bosch professional all my powertools are made by them now, wouldn't use anything else

could never remember which colour was the bettet. But as i say my father went through 2 green ones in a year and only ever used them with a flap wheel on for removing paint

I have the DeWalt grinder as it has a narrow body which suits my hands which are starting to get arthritic and I am only 47!
Too much hammering on the anvil I guess.

I've just bought a Bosch GWS 660 £46 delivered, the body is very slim compared to some I've owned, you can also rotate the head to put the switch on top which makes it very comfortable to use, a spare set of brushes included as well, mine came from here

I'm impressed with Blue Bosch. We have maybe 10-15 grinders, heavily used, dropped, swung by the lead etc and they just keep on and keep on going.

Isn't there something like a 3 year warranty or something daft???

Yes, which is swayed me to it even more. If it outlives that i will be happy and if it goes pop i will send off for a new one

He went to B&Q came back with a new Dewalt 850 watt 115 mm grinder
Good payment for a hours welding

Just to rub it in, I was passing a tool hire company just as they skipped all their old power tools, 2 oil drums full of hitachi, Bosch, and makita drills , grinders, ect. I have a lifetimes supply of grinders, I just installed new brushes, and bearings, those brands are built like panzers and last forever.

It's worth pointing out that they may have failed an electrical safety test, best to get a friendly sparks to do a portable appliance test on them before use!
