Metabo says their brushes outlast the life service of the machineIve found the quality of brushes varies, none seem to last as long as the origionals
That's just not true, hence them selling brushes.Metabo says their brushes outlast the life service of the machine
I don't know if it's good or not
What a growler ?I would say that nickk's problem is a dead armature. The only way to really check it is by sticking it on a growler.
I dont like skimming comutators, I rather just clean them with 800 paper, and I make sure the gaps are open IF it is an armature of that type.
Not all are!! The diameter of the com is important too, so skimming on a high speed armature, as opposed to say a starter motor is not recomended.
Easy way to check the armature first, is to see if any edges on the com have burns in them. Thats a dead set way of seeing a shorted section.

when you buy replacements if there not genuine you dont know how hard they are .if the copper on the armature is soft and the carbon brushes are hard they will knack the armature quick or vice versaIve found the quality of brushes varies, none seem to last as long as the origionals
Can you test the armature with a voltmeter, on ohms, or do you have to have a growler ?A growler is a bit like a transformer, but it doesnt have the I's fitted. The E's induce a magnetic field into the armature and if one section is shorted it wont magnetise.

It sounds complex, but isnt. A little experience is required to get a reliable test.

Makita armature assemblies are only £15 or so, well worth repairing. Is there something in the water??
So far this year (it’s only march) I have killed
1x Dewalt - about 15 years old but used a few hours a week for a fibre pad
1x Bosch. I bought it when I was 13. Came in a metal box
2x makita both bought since Rona started. One gave a really good light show out the grille then let out the magic smoke. The other skipped the light show and went straight to smoke.
I tend to get a couple of years out of a grinder but this lot all died since Christmas.
What a growler ?
