The front suspension of a Citroen DS is bolted on through four tubes each side. The tubes are welded to the chassis. Even from new the welds were rather hit or miss. I'm sure someone has tried to 'improve' the welds by adding their own pigeon poop.
I expect I've answered my own question, grind all the poop off?
I have an old Sealey turbo 170 MIG, presumably turn the wick up to 11. Make one pass around the tube or several?
The tubes pass through a steel pressing which is spot welded to the chassis. Put some 1" stitches on that as well?
