Greetings from Canada

Howdy blokes n folks,
I'm near Niagara (we call it Viagra Falls) Falls, Ontario and I'm fresh gmaw-ing meat...never held a welder in my hand in 52 years. I'll be restoring an old Porsche 911's body with my new 220v/gas mig and will be frequenting this forum for some help. Practice is the obvious first order of the day, so that's exactly what I'm doing at this time. Nice to meet you all.

Good to meet you. I didn't think anyone lived in Niagra - I drove past once and it was full of entertainment for tourists (like me) and assumed everyone must go home somewhere for the night. I loved Canada. I've never found anywhere else where I could chat to a stranger on the street. It seemed a very friendly place.

What year is the Porsche? One of the cool 1970's ones?

I have a 71 911 on the road and I'm working on a 72 911. Yes, we do retreat to our lil shacks at nite like a worm crawls into it's hole... Nice to meet ya.

Popped back after the email response notification (that the forum likes to provide) to find out what I'd said.

I should qualify all that with my thought that Canada is the coolest place I've ever visited. I don't know if you've seen Paul Hogan in the Crocodile Dundee films, but that's what I'm like in foreign places - I attempt to make friends with the locals. Canada is the only place I've found where I could engage in conversation with any stranger I found on the street. That's just not possible in England or the USA. Wasn't impressed with Niagra fair enough, but maybe I didn't see the best parts.

The early 911s are super-cool. These days they are just fast cars, but in those days they were original thinking.

Malcolm, you say that its not possible to talk to strangers on the street in England. Have you never been to Gods Own country, ie the North West? true northerners (and for once, I´m going to incude Yorkshiremen) are the friendliest people on earth!

I've even tried living in the north - Darlington for a year and Crewe for 4 years. Even tried Scotland for 10 years but in the end found it too cold in the winters. I like it up north, but have you ever been to Canada? Toronto had all the fun of London with all the friendliness of the north. Never found that anywhere else.

Malcolm, a lot depends on what you mean by fun, but if you mean clubs, did you know that there is a street in a certain northern town that has more clubs per metre than Las Vegas? Plus a music scene that is world famous? And as the icing on the cake, until it burned down, a "disco" that was voted better than New Yorks Level 42 (or whatever number it was!)

Our house in Nantwich was guite good - Nantwich was a market town and has a pub every hundred yards. We lived next door to one, but our favourite was at the other end of the town. Oddly enough Nantwich also had a club that burned down but I only went there once and found it too noisy for a proper conversation. Seems like I should have been avoiding them because of the fire risk. The music scene was good too - they have a country music festival.... Is that the place you were thinking of? Most fun we had was in the house and grounds. There was a well we used to race cars around after we got back from the pub.

For fun in Toronto I was thinking of things to do during the day as a tourist, but at home it becomes something different. We have fun parties with lots of people, and Santa Pod was most excellent fun. I quite enjoy messing with Renaults, but that might be therapy rather than fun.

There are 606 pubs in Leeds and it's populated by large numbers of rich, single women who have recently voted Leeds their favourite city. You'll find them all down at the Robbie Williams concert tonight!

No, it wasn´t Nantwich, though I was referring to a Market Town. The music scene in this particular place is / was so good, it even created a pop music genre. To give you a clue, my handle is connected to the town!

Yes, things have changed. We are still very wary of people from Lancashire but we don't eat them anymore.

Yes, I suppose that you must be vary of lancastrians. For a good number of years, we´ve reglarly been sending over some Warriors to destroy your Rhinos!
