Is there anything special about this green inner lens used on a variable shade auto darkening welding mask module?

Can I use a clear one instead, as this one is badly scratched and is causing smearing of the view?

You're absolutely right. I thought the protective film, was this one - which I did remove.

It is clear...just peel the plastic off
