Great dorset steam fair

ive noticed one or two postings about this but i thought id start a thread (im sure it will soon be steered off topic soon tho )
Anyway ive not been before ,meant to go but not had the chance .
i believe its on a 400 acre site which makes it pretty massive , so is it all seeable in a day ? bearing in mind its probably a 3 or 4 hour drive there ? (im thinking not !)
so has anyone camped before ? i would do the short stay tents only jobbie or just park overnight and sleep in the car .
looking forward to it now will go midweek i reckon , who else might be going ?? do they have stowford press

I posted about it a few weeks ago.

If the weathers half decent im going on the friday. (29th) Its only about an hour from me including a bit of queing time!

It is just about seeable in a day as long as you just skim everything. If you want to look round the stalls, look closely at the engines, and experience the evening entertainment/fair id camp there as its a fair drive for you. You best get in quick though by the look of it!

Usually have the cider bus there, thats burrow hill, iirc.

Few other available in the bar areas though normally.

Been to Steam Fair for last 2 year's, to be honest you would need more than a day to see it all. We actualy spent 3 day's one year and 4 day's the other, we took the caravan. Also there is some great entertainment at night, bar's, group's, real ale, funfair, tractor pulling in the dark, well worth going for a few day's.

Bugger. wouldnt have minded going but no time.
Managed an hour or so at a local one near us, but one of the main reasons for going was that i needed some rotabroach bits in a rush and all the shops were shut. From going there for the past few years i knew a certain stall would be there so could stock up on cutting tools. New boxes of Dormer drill bits going cheap!
Going to try and make Dorset one year!

The weathers even been a bit drier last few days, hopefully it will hold out!

Nah, not enough money in pot for fixing into a frame. Dont like cold galvin over the welds either.

hmmmm Im guessing it wouldnt, I even find it can be pesky stuff to keep flat when tacking it into a frame....Depends on how kind your galvanizes are going to treat it

Probably not, once they put that at the bottom of a pile, then rested 2 tons of other stuff on it, with only one peice of wood, smack in the middle of the mesh.


I reckon it would still have a bit of a bubble in it. Does it really matter it stays flat?

ha ha , i think every post goes off topic sooner rather than later

well ive just got back , had about a day and half there wot with the travelling .

cracking show , the show ground is huge ! some really interesting stuff there . (will try to post up a few pics when i get time )

looks like i got a ticket for sat ....want to see the vintage cars /bikes more than anything ,any good trade stands are they all together or spread out?......many thanx

The trade stands /autojumble /general tat stalls are in as big block , would take you half a day to properly browse

Been down today, got there just after 9, left about 5.30.
Had a good wander rounder, saw most of it. Ignored the majority of the stalls, only looked on a few tool stands.
