^^ I would say preferable rather than permissible.
I'd say "You are a horrible person" rather than "You are an horrible person" though. Common people would say "You are an 'orrible person."![]()

Must admit, I occasionally pronounce with an where I shouldn't, but I try to catch myself before I do. Always looks worse when in print though, IMHO. Pronunciation allows the dropping of certain consonants so that it sounds acceptable, whereas print/written makes it stand out, unless one's a crap speller.
. End of the day, it's only a minor technicality, but I try to aim for consistency these days.
