Got the regulator today... now whats wrong wiv me welder

The regulator arrived from weldequip today and it's all fitted fine.

Started to have a practice weld and there seems to be something up with the welder.

At first it sounded like this Normal (on but not welding)

Then after about 5 minutes it started doing this (again on, but not welding)Lots of noise

When the noise starts the gas flow reading drops as if gas is flowing. If I pull the trigger to start welding the noise stops and it just sounds like it did when I first started.

During the times is wasn't making a racket, when I pull the trigger I can hear gas escaping where the torch joins the welder. Is this normal or are there more problems?

About the only thing that does work perfect is the regulator

Forgot to say this is a Cebora MIG 816.

I Don't suppose anyone has a schematic for it?

What bottles you using?
What flow rate, is the welder new?
Are there any leaks?

I'm using a 14lb CO2 cylinder flow rate set to about 10L/min.

The welder is obsolete and wasn't used for 3 or 4 years, which it spent sat under a bench grinder. I've given it a through clean but I wonder if some metal dust has worked it's way into the power relay. Just sat here debating if I should go and see if it's a type that can be dissassembled.


Gas leaks - there may be from where the torch attaches to the welder - I can hear hissing there.

At this point I'm not concerned with the quality of the welds as there isn't any - thats 99.9% me since I've never mig welded before. It's just the loud buzzing noise that worries me - I have seen this welder working years ago and it definately did not make that noise.

Where the euro connector gas stub goes in there should be an "O" ring, has it perished or missing?

O ring? Thats the leak sorted then, no O-ring.

Had another check of the electrics and the main relay, when the buzzing starts the manual push button on the relay starts vibrating and slowly gets pulled in so either it's faulty or the drive circuit is.
