I've been after a decent MIG welder to replace my little 100A Clarke MIG,and after looking all over the internet for a bargain, and narrowing the search down to a Portamig 185 or a Butters AMT181 I thought I'd get the Yellow Pages out and try the local welding suppliers to see what they could offer me.
Mostly they just turned up their noses when they found that I didn't want to spend more than my max budget of £540,one tried to sell me a Sealey welder and insisted that they were made by Cebora.
Eventually I was offered an Esab Origo C171 Mig at rather more than I wanted to pay,and I asked him politely if he might like to er,adjust his price to suit my budget - surprisingly he said yes!
I'd heard almost nothing about Esab, but the specifications looked good, and it comes with a professional wire drive system and Euro torch set up.
Having struggled with the limited capabilities of my little Clarke for so long my new welder is an absolute revelation,I was beginning to doubt my ability as a welder but now I see that it's all in the quality of the machine.
Compared to the snap crackle and pop of my old welder (now on Ebay) this machine just purrs,I wish I'd bought a proper welder years ago.
