Got it up but can't let it down!

Been given this old Jack , no intention of using it in anger but having added oil and pumped it up I can't find out how to lower it!
The pump up is on the long handle - in and out like a bicycle pump but have tried fully in, fully out and twisting it to no avail.
Any ideas!

Have you tried stroking it.

If you remove the handle is there not a relece screw in there. Nice old jack btw.

Silly question but.....have you jacked a heavy load up on it? ie on some jacks a twist of the right or left pump handle makes the jack go down because the weight forces the jack down.

Going by the title I have expected this to a post by Normspanners and his xmas costume....
Judging by the ware to the right of the bottom of where the pump attaches I would say you put your foot there and pull. Should think the springs would then return it to it's home position. Just don't sit on it cos that will take some explaining to the docs at A&E

Maybe thats why that body orifice is sometimes called the jacksy????

but that "nipple" is the filler plug.

My trolley jack fills through the release plug, does it have a flat base or is it like a taper and have you actually tried undoing it half a turn ? Does the handle raise and lower as well as pump in and out. Try pressing it down to the floor if it does.

Could well be that the handle has to be lowered right down, past the normal working stroke for pumping it up.

Flat, just a filler. Have tried all combinations of handle up, down, in and out but none under load as yet. However none of the combinations give any feel of tripping a valve such as one gets with a pallet truck.
I've found a website devoted to all types and sizes of mechanical and hydraulic jacks so I'm going to post images on it and see what happens.

Cracked it!
With either a weight on it or a well placed foot to stop it moving you give the pump handle a sharp outward tug and it releases the pressure.

tugging it makes it go down.. thats unusual but hey at least you didnt have to put it on the jack forum and have all amnner of weirdos jacking off to it.......
