By the way my brother invented this device to CUT Co2 production for every person in the UK and save money. The Standbyplug.

It is a surprising amount, but possibly not as much as has been suggested. Google posted about their CO2 figures per search in response to those articles.

Though once you also bring the rest of the internet in you've got buildings full of computers that are on all the time, your own computer etc. Those will knock the numbers up.

Without meaning to sound rude, is there any benefit to using one of those rather than turning the appliance off at the wall when you shut it down?

Its been said before, but...
It always surprises me how people make little savings, yet scrap their old polluting banger and buy a eco friendly replacement for it. Thus creating the worst environmental disaster out of the situation they possibly could.
It has also been said before, people stitching together said old bangers are actually really environmentally friendly...

psymon, is it some sort of x10/idratek remote control device? and if it turns off the power when the device is on standby, surely it draws power itself to monitor when you want the device to start back up again ?
Edit read the standby page, I see but you mean I have to get up off my bum to press the standby switch reset button?

Say you are in bed with the wife. And the tv is on. OK picture it. Right, you are watching the late night program about underwater welding for example. Surprisingly the wife is snoring by the time the program has finished.

Right do you
a) get out of bed walk across the room to unplug the telly? (Yeah right)
b) hit the standby button and go to sleep?
c) pull out your weapon and shoot the telly? (ho ho ho)

If you went for B) like probably most of the population then a standbyplug would benefit you.

I have one fitted to my computer. When I select SHUT DOWN I then get up and walk out of the room knowing that in 2 mins the standbyplug will activate and shut everything down for me. Rather than me sit there and wait for the machine to install updates then do a controlled close (sometimes as long as 10 mins later) then flick the switch. Call me lazy if you like.

Its actually quite a clever thing. Initially I was skeptical about it like everyone else. And now I really like having one connected to my computer system, printer, computer monitor etc. Call me biased if you like - I never came on the forum and tried to sell one - as a sale does not benefit me in any way whatsoever. Just nice to see Karl is at least doing something for the environment (family passion).

Did he? Well he made a few quid from it. And that is literally a few quid. He still lives in a modest house with a mortgage and does not drive a Ferrari. He still has to go out to work every day. Does that answer your question?

Would that be emulsion or gloss? Not fussed on the whole green issue thing to be honest. I know it sounds contradictory but I think that individuals can't do that much in the grand scheme of things. If a government really wanted to do something then we would all have a fuel cell car, wind turbine etc. We know its not going to happen when there is money and oil around.

fuel cell doesnt sound at all right but hang on... An electric car goes faster than a petrol one, cheaper and for longer? So whats the benefit of petrol?
