Good used or new ?

I currently have an ERP 150 which has never really inspired me. Nothing wrong with it, just not great. been sitting in the garage for some time unused. Fired it up recently and remembered why - I don't like the thing. Never have, never will and i've owned it ten years . It followed a truly knackered old Cebora that ran rings around it. Limited budget means sale price of the ERP plus a couple of hundred tops for a replacement. What's about for that kind of money.

Bought a second hand Cebora / Snap On 160 of indeterminate vintage off e-bay. Reputedly in fine order. Time will tell.....

I've been thinking really hard along the same kind of lines. I just cannot decide what to do. I can afford to spend a bit on a machine if I need to but I've spent my whole life spending and not saving and now I've passed 30 it's hit home that just because I have some money in the bank, I don't have to spend it all!

I'm only likely to be a hobby welder and I have other expensive hobbies to upkeep. This is something I should really go steady on. Trouble is if I pay say £150 for a £300ish new machine and it needs a new liner, feed rollers etc would the price of those mean that I may as well have bought a new one?
