Yeah I have separate crimping pliers, but for stripping and crimping up to 2.5mm^2 wires

Mine are identical.
I don’t use the crimping bit on them I just use them to strip cores. Really good and super sharp.

those cable strippers are very good on certain jobs .I only use mine on outer core of flex and doing a load of lights where the cables are loose can be pushed back in to the ceiling. namely 1.0mm twin and earth everything else with side cutters. Christ just noticed the price of them strippers you can get the ck ones for 20 quid or less

I've got identical ones (Though badged Stanley), don't think they cost more than £25.

I did get one free with some lugs once and it was rubbish,some no brand one that flexed too much.
I wouldn't buy the cheapest one and expect consistent results

Wow I ain’t seen a set of them in a long time. Yeah they make snap on offerings seem cheap. They were primarily sea fishing tools weren’t they?

Yeah big game seafishing tools.. Cutting high tensile steel trace wires etc
I wore my first set of jaws out and although lifetime garantee they charged me sent them back as a fishing reel and i got stung for import taxes again to boot
Spoke to Randall the owner of kaufmans and i think he stopped dealing with them.
Shame they are incredibly well built (over twenty years old now much use and open and close like dressmakers sizxors to this day.

That’s very similar to the Maun ones, I’ve got a couple of pairs left over from my time on the tools with BT. If you can get them, the Maun ones are superb.

I have this version of snap on.

Great bits of kit for stripping and crimping but the snip part is a bit small so usually use side cutters also.
But I do rate them.

Knipex are great, especially for their pliers wrench, cobra and high leverage cutters.
NWS are also pretty good (I think C.K rebrand some of them).
Another I haven't seen mentioned much are VBW who OEM for Stahlwille, comparable to knipex IMHO.
Maun rock for parallel pliers.
For electronics I use schmitz pliers and carbide faced cutters (also rebranded by C.K I believe) they aren't bad if you get a good pair (had a couple of iffy ones), although I still quite like the cheapy Italian made Piergiacomi rebranded by everybody and their dog.

If you can find old decent condition Elliot Lucas, they are worth having too. I've never tried bacho but heard good things.

Who makes good quality pliers and snips ? I was in a tool shop today buying circlip pliers, and on the display they had Knipex and Wills (made in germany). They look ok and are fairly expensive, are they any cop though ?

In the Irish market - Dargan pliers and sidecutters have served me well for a long time. Only reason the sidecutters lost a bit of edge was I got stupid one day and was cutting hard steel rod with them. However, that's not to say Dargan's quality is still as good as it was - I'm not sure of the origins and they might have cheapened their production costs by now.

CK have been good too. I've also got some Maun sidecutters that I've had for decades and intend to buy more of their stuff.

For electronic work, I was issued with Lindstrom box-joint pliers and cutters in 1970. They still work like new. I always did wonder how they made those joints....
Apparently they cost £30 to £60 a pair now.
