1.4 kg is quite heavy for one handed operation, the silverline is less than 1kg in weight and i find it very easy to use compared to those ones that lock its switch. Also silverline one has a lifetime warranty.

Its a good price though but i just hate those locking switches where the lock ends up being really hard to undue no matter what make it is, give me rev and rip any day.

I'm speechless, I picked up mine from machine m*rt for 55 odd quid and was well chuffed last year, as, wait for it, I've seen the same grinders in France from 130 to 190 euros, I kid you not, the only difference being the plug on the end. For gods sake.......

1.4kg is light imo, the ones we use at work ar 1.9kg and 2kg.


Silverline wont have a lifetime warranty on a grinder.

silver line look like the usual cheap tat to me .
cheap grinder equals short life in my experince.
usuall crap bearings in gearbox fail with any heavy use.
the light weight is a bit of a give away
makita for me have 5 on the go daily.

Just bought another while the price was right,Super fast delivery, order one day grinder arrives the next. One thing I'm impressed with is the really low vibration level when running,you barely know it's switched on. First job on both was to carefully cut the outside rim from the guard and reweld at a smidgin' larger radius to allow fitting 5" discs. Quick weld with the Kemppi 180, dress weld with flap wheel and spray with a coat of Screw-fix cold galv, And "Voila" looks completely original.

I've bought one of these Makita grinders to replace one of my old Focus DIY grinders that died (brushes worn out and not available new), it is a nice bit of Kit, light weight and as Gordon says above, low vibration, and the service from that shop is great as well.

With the usage I put grinders to restoring classic cars, I've also ordered a couple of brush sets off Ebay as I'm sure to wear the brushes out on an otherwise perfectly good grinder in a year or two!
