I've seen them misold for at least 15 years that I know of as suitable for isocyanates.

As it says in the spec sheet Paint spraying (not isocyanate)

Unfortunately none of this is on Utube where paid experts tell you 'it'll be fine'.

They will defensively claim that a perfect seal makes them safe but how do you guarantee that, particularly with the modern fashion of looking like you slept in a hedge?

I didn't buy it so can't say for sure which it was. I have looked for a mask that state they can be used though.

You missed the point of @steveo3002 post He is recommending that as you are insistent on using the rustbuster / jotun primer that you try that on a small area first and see how it flats back afterwards long before you even think about the colour.


Then its probably a product you shouldn't be using until you do, see post #37 by @ajlelectronics

I may if missed his point then. I wouldnt say I am insistent at all. Just trying to get advice. And painting the T Top to see how it sands I thought was a small area. Maybe a seperate sheet of metal then is better.
Is it the sanding of the Rustbuster custom to prep for the base coat the bad bit then ?
And there doesn't seem to be a post 37.

No passive mask is suitable for Isocyanates, only a full air fed (positive pressure) shield will be safe to use.

I was doing a small paint job a couple of weeks ago in the shed i've got two extracter fans one large one small so on i went with the job mask on a 3M thought that will do the job and it did for the face. the bad mistake was not understanding the paint as i have always used 2K. It wasnt till i woke up in hospital that i was told that I had to be brought back to life as my lungs had shut down and didnt know that it contains isocyante or something like that so it's celluloss from now on.

Its not really much different to selling Joe public building products like cement/plaster, nobody will read the H&S blurb and most of this gear can damage your health.

I actually took the advice from these posts 4,5,6,12, 14 17 and a couple others. I went to the well established suppliers and asked for that, being the 2k base and clear and thats what i was given. Then thankfully @carbon mentioned the ICC6000 has isocyanates in it, which i was unable to find the data sheet and info. anyway thats that i can not use the isocyanates without air fed mask. and defo not with the mask they wanted to sell me.

So the paint i have is not good. I am taking the clear they sold me back and cancelling the base coat they are making up.

Ill find another place as local as possible so i can give them my filler cap for the colour match.

Its not that i am cherry picking but trying to get info and what to buy when what you get back is a mix and match so as i am not the best at taking in loads of info that i have no clue about.

So on that i am going to take your advice and get a solvent basecoat and a 1k as these will have no problems with being sprayed safely .

Again, your professional paint supplier will advise, just be sure to specify non isocyanate.

What primer would you go for ?

We really are going around in circles here... Lechler 29107, Mipa or Kapci automotive epoxy primer, which are isocyanate free.

I am sorry if i am hard work, i just find it to much to take in all the different advice.

Select your preferred experienced professional or two on here, then listen to what they are saying. Don't be distracted by "boobtube says" and bodge artists who are clueless but will send you down rabbit holes and spin you in circles.

sadly the 1k clears dont make for a lasting job , i wont use them myself - this is what youre up against as a diy'er , 2k is hard to use safely and anything less is way inferior, so no i dont know whats a good brand only that its "safe" to use with a mask

lechler epoxy should be good for you , you can have it tinted to a similar shade so that chips wont show so bad
