I have been around amateurish stick welding with cheap arc welders but finally got myself a basic model MiG 135 welder cheap, new old stock, ex shop display. probably Chinese and badged for whatever country or wholesaler sold it
thats the good news bit.
Now, ....it came with no packing, no instructions , fitted with a spool of E71T GS 9mm, and a spare 8mm spool with no specs, from NuTool, except 8mm... what basic chart info is in Spanish, but no reference to the settings controls.
I messed around experimenting even before hitting youtube, where there are endless mostly american ' how to' intro vids, and have decided it works, but its all in the settings. my results were awful and unsuccessful, not just a fine tuning issue
so question 1 ,
my speed dial is marked 1 - 10 and at 1 nothing happens until 2 or so, its the slowest feed speed. this doesn't seem to be a problem but how does this equate to instructions like 'set the WFS feed to
xxx inches per minute,
2. the voltage dial ( I guess thats what it is, its the only other dial on the machine,) is marked 1 -2 -3 -4, ...?
as most charts on the vids never seem to show more volts even for shielded MIG , than about 20, do you think 1234 is maybe 5, 10, 15, 20 volts
but then as no chart shows a voltage less than 15 , is it ,say , even spacing between 15v and 20 v ?
3. a couple of vids said polarity is important, even critical, and flux welding needs the torch negative and the workpiece positive, and some machines have the cables for cramp and pistol swappable on the face of the welder.. Lots of tutorials don't even mention polarity. I have to go inside and swap the two cables over on the terminals, no probs, but is it necessary? and as it came set up, were the cables set for gas shield,? and as it was never used, the roll of fluxcore got mounted in there just for show.
Its pretty unlikely I'll ever use it with gas anyway.
Any ideas, questions, and thanx for your attention UJB
