yep , I used to work in the ents industry and tour a bit , I have a tough book panasonic lap top , when it gets coffee spilt on it , or soaked in beer and the rest , I rinse it under the tap and keep going , If i really had to i could knock a nail in with it , or stand on it as a step ,,, no its not as trendy as the latest mac book air something or another , but i do like things to just work ,,, keep working , and then just work some more.

I'm happy to stay a few gens behind. Not like they are making huge leaps. Just marketing bumf to sell the latest model.

I only have an iPhone (5s) because the company issued it.
Prior to that it was an old Samsung that an ex gave me when I bought her the latest thing (whatever it was) for xmas. The Samsung has a broken charge socket so you have to lean it one way to make connection.
Before that it was a Nokia 6210 or something, 2002 vintage, titchy screen but proper buttons. I still have it, it still switches on and it's what I'd use if all I needed was to make phone calls.

I have a 1987 plastic sports car that has cost me less in total over the almost 20 years I've owned it, than most people lose in depreciation in the first year on their latest unnecessary driveway ornament/ pen15 enhancer. Both are still just transport. I guess people value their toys in different ways.

Been in a rubber case since new.

Oh god, whole new threads could run on that... I had an Esprit S3. It was better as a driver's car, but the TVR adds a sense of occasion that the Esprit lacked... though it was a fun way to get the shopping in
No such thing as a cheap Esprit now, unfortunately - but the TVR wedges have always been so obscure that only the best ones are expensive.

That and along with if you are on an Apple phone, like me (both work and personal) they keep slowing it down with upgrades until you are forced in to getting a new one.

They have this pretty well sussed, if your like me and don't do technology very well, you stick to the brand cause you know how it works etc etc and then ******** cause they force your hand in upgrading very few years

But am I likely to go elsewhere, highly unlikely, so im the perfect customer for them

I went up to the Pyramids when we were on our honeymoon in Sharm El Sheikh, the wife didn’t want to go, but it was something I wanted to see for years. went up on an overnight coach with around a dozen others .
What they didn’t tell us , was that the day before there were 2 women shooting at tour buses with AK 47’s . I’ll admit, if I had known that , then I wouldn’t have gone , and missed out on a fascinating trip and going into an actual pyramid.
Whilst we were outside one of the pedlars was giving me some grief after he had shoved some tat in my hand and expected me to pay for it. He was shouting and balling with his pidgeon english right into my face, when one of the guys who was sat at the back of our coach came over, opened his jacket and flashed what looked like an uzi, that he had hanging on his shoulder. The guy backed off and that was that. ( I found out about the 2 women whilst chatting to this guy on the way back )
Apparently the people who could afford to fly up on the trip didn’t get the armed escorts

I do a lot of land rovers and a lot of classic cars , and very very often I just point at the wall , and ask which two they would like ,,, It makes me smile .

Looking at this from the other side of the fence... if I, as a customer, need something doing (and probably quickly) then while I may not promise to find the supplier more work, I will certainly put them top of the list if there's a next time.
Supplier gives me hassle, grief and chew, they don't get used again. Two examples: a machine shop in Middlesbrough who kept back-heeling every job I gave them, hasn't had any work from us for well over a decade - and we build some expensive systems.
Another one, powder-coaters right on the doorstep decided he didn't fancy doing 'those bits of crap' that my van was full of, not only hasn't done anything else for us but when I get asked for recommendations for powdercoating wheels etc. I just cite his 'customer relations skills' as reason not to go there.
Both are still in business, but I wouldn't miss them if they weren't.
In contrast, the machine shop we use (QRS in Hartlepool, 01429 891300) and the powdercoaters (Motorcool in Thornaby 01642 616746) are fantastic in all aspects
