Oregon line should be fine we use it for clearing brambles and it last really well as does stihl own brand
Get a straight shaft rather than bent shaft much stronger
Stihl have just released a battery power head for there interchangeable range which may be of interest if you want a pole saw or hedge cutter to
And as said dewalt make them as do makita so if you already have the batteries they may be of interest

The line I'm using is Trailblazer Desert Extrusion commercial grade line.

Would also agree about going for a straight shaft with geared head instead of a bent shaft.

Just to round this off for the moment, yesterday I pulled the trigger on the one in the 1st post link, the B & D job. Not from the 'Bay' but from Very.co.uk, saving c. £16/17 on the deal. Only observation I have on the Co website is that every click they try to get you to open a credit-type account. You can ignore the banners and pay as I did [they take P/Pal too, which was handy ]

Order confirmed and should be here some time next week.

So, strimmer arrived today. Seems to be quite robust, battery is currently on charge.

Trimmed the edges etc today with the petrol job, so the battery one will get first use [and assessment] next week when I get back from a weekend away.

One trick I've tried is to cut off whatever length of line your cutting head takes & soak it in water for a day or 2 before using it. The nylon soaks up the water which makes it less brittle so it lasts a whole lot longer and rarely snaps off at the eyelet. Sounds corny but it really works, especially on old line.

It's quite commonly done with fishing line, soak a new spool in water before putting on the reel. Seems crazy as you'd think it would be totally water resistant.
