Found a line of hard dry glue on the lip where the screen rubber sits an area of potential unseen rust. I've tried solvent but that takes off the paint, not good, heat has no effect to hard to dry, do won't to it mechanically that scratches it, is there anything else I can try?

A mini abrasive wheel, Dremel type maybe?

Try this https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/p/d/b5005047174/ - it won't harm the paint as it's based on citrus fruit extract (which gives it a very strong smell of oranges!

Would that sticker adhesive remover type stuff be worth a try? It's just an adhesive softener, doesn't harm paintwork.
