Glue for laminate worktops

The edge trim has dropped off the side of a kitchen laminate worktop for the 4000th time this week - what is the best sort of glue to permanently stick it back on with?

Evostick impact or contact adhesive boss.

Always used Evostick, if there are remnants of old glue it's best trying to get them off and give the edge a light sand with a flat block.

Before gluing hoover the end surface, a fine layer of dust is a major cause of the adhesive not sticking correctly.

Gorilla glue although it will froth out at the edges which you can trim of and sandpaper or file if my memory recollects Me!
Also you’ll need to devise some way of clamping it tight until glue sets...

Even stranger if you do it as my mate did, he was a kitchen fitter and went to extremes for perfection...a rare thing.

He would apply the adhesive, wait about 10mins until dry then apply another coat, wait until you can touch it without it coming away on your fingers and then stick it down, I have done a few worktops following his method and never seen one come away.

It was him that told me of the trick to hoover the dust away, seemed a bit OTT and you would have thought a brush would have swept it off but nope...it had to be a hoover 'to pull the dust out of the holes'.

Cumbria steve has it right, glue two angry elephants together with it if done correctly; Contact adhesive.

As a general adhesive I use Everbuild's Clearfix for both inside and outside jobs, I have used it for things like delaminated caravan windows, a patch inside my pool which is still there two years later and various internal trims etc, not failed on me yet. It dries clear so can blend in and not had a part used tube go bad either and its not expensive.

That's how it works though, we used to get through lots of Evo Stick at the box factory fastening release foam to machine forms and it works.

But it works! used to put loads of rubber onto polishes chrome when I did gym kit. The hard bit is making sure you get the alignment Bob on first go coz you cannot manover it

Contact adhesive, both sides, left until the smell has gone and it's dry. Nylon roller and plenty of elbow grease.

I've only used it a few times. It does seem odd.

I contacted my carpenter friend but I'm pleased to hear you are already fixed up, Here's what he had to say anyway :Unika do worktop edging tape[Like double sided tape]. Some of the chipboard cores are very course and the tape sometimes struggles to adhere, if you lightly rub the chipboard down with some 180 grit or similar sand paper then prime it withe some PVA, leave it to dry , then apply the tape , you should get a strong bond . definitely use this method if the edging has to go round a radiused corner , also if it is a square edged work top that has the thick PVC edging , you'll find the edging tape comes in a roll and cosequently it has an identity [ It struggles to to lay flat] . Cut it roughly to the length required and soften it on a radiator then put it under a board with some wieghts on top-it just stops it from trying to to pull away from the adhisive tape and spring back into its curved shape. I love good old evostick contact glue - used to use it for laminating RC plane wings. The new stuff just doesn't have that incredible smell............
I am a great fan of epoxy for most applications. To thicken it up I use either sawdust or talc - smells quite sweet with Johnson's baby powder! Also use the talc on superglue!
