I think you need to empty the boot to get to the nut you turn to raise/lower the spare?

That's D3 and 4, P38 is inside the car under the boot floor

@indy4x yeah there is a huge space under the boot floor that I want to claw back, hence the exterior tyre carrier.

Shaped the step, grateful to say it went well.

Ten more small jobs to do then paint. Bought paint today.

Ha!! im selective about the risks I take these days, the list is full! im at my quota already. I am going to do something with the back of the car. at the moment its a mess, excuse the arrows

this is the front of the car. I dumped 700 euros into a wood console and steering wheel from a Vogue SE.
Took a year or two to find a matching steering wheel, there is a green running through it

ive always considered stonechip as not waterproof, but thats generic stonechip, i have no specific knowledge of hammerites version. having said that, i would always epoxy prime then stonechip over the top if stonechip is the finish you want.

Qwakers hey there, I know next to nothing about paint. I went looking for primer but the shop did not have epoxy primer. They had etch primer and zinc primer, but not epoxy primer.
I bought Zinc primer cos it said ferrous metals on the can.

What is the difference please?

epoxy primer like jotun 87 is a 2 part paint that chemically cures, rather like 2 pack iso paint but not so dangerous to use. it is night and day different to any air dry 1k stuff like you have there.

Thanks @qwakers , Ive used Jotun paint before, will have a look for the product you mentioned, appreciated.

Im sick to death of this project! Im nearly finished, the list is really small, but new stuff keeps appearing and setting me back. So i realised last night that welding in the reciever for the swing arm, is after pranging that side of the bumper. So, I have to cut the braces / supports on that side today and open it up a bit, then re-weld. Should be easy enough, but im tired at this stage, so everything is harder.

I'll use an acrow prop, and made a brace, below, so I can push off the opposite side and not distort it

gonna go and get me a decent breakfast and then launch into it for the day.

i removed the front mudguards so the car can sit lower with the 31" tyres.

last post to conclude this thread. All that work was worth it. Went on an offroad tour of Northern Ireland and Donegal with a group called Flat Cap Adventurers and twas massive fun.
Had some electrical issues (stuff I installed, my own fault) but mechanically the car took the abuse and the swing away arm and clasp didnt budge. So great success.

I did like the look of the naked I beam too but I guess you need to be on the right side of the line (or at least stay close to it).
