Getting rid of Bamboo

I might have to remove a large clump of Bamboo.
So do I bag it and take to the tip ?
Or Burn in the log burner?
Its too small for scaffolding!

I wouldn't put it in a log burner (unless you mean an industrial garden type) - it'll pop and bang like fireworks.

We had bamboo at work needing removing, digger and big skip.

Evil stuff.

I've a small forest of bamboo in a corner of my place.

Add "dead and dry" enough.

Personally I would be burning it in oil drum incinerators right next to where I been cutting it - digging it out.

Two sorts of Bamboo - clumping and running.

Clumping easy to get rid of

Running Bamboo - you into a decade long Knotweed like war

Yes black bamboo - looks really nice and isnt invasive like the other bamboo varieties. My neighbour was concerned when I was planting it but many years later they like it now and know it hasn't tried to spread.

Phyllostachys nigra - black or purple bamboo - is a "running" variety - I just checked

As it only flowers - every 40 to 120yrs and somehow - according to Chinese culture - it's Synchronous flowering is a mystery - there is some scientific evidence the plants need other plants about to flower.

I haven't seen it flower at any time but good to know and ill watch out for it! It does appear to love any prolonged rain periods in the summer. That's the only time ill see brand new shoots appear and grow full height in a few days

Google the "flowering thing" - it is interesting (well I thought it was interesting)
