There I was, sorting out the security for my new garage when I discovered 1 big propane bottle and two acetylene bottles kindly left by the previous tenant.
Propane one is easy, purge it, chop it up, make a heater from it.
But I wondered about doing the same with the Acetylene ones. This is what I'd do:
Thoroughly vent them over a couple of weeks (this should enable all the acetylene and most of the acetone to come out). Fill them with water a few times -- acetone is lighter than water and should come out of the top. Half fill with water, half with argon, cut in half above the water line (top suspended from engine crane so it doesn't fall on my foot -- I suspect these are extremely thick and heavy). Smash out core, dispose of core, treat as though Propane cylinder.
Any thoughts, ideas?
