Getting oil from tank to can

Having got my diesel heater up and running thoughts turn to longer term fuelling.

What is the easiest, simplest, safest, cheapest way for me to get some oil out of my heating oil tank into a jerry can?

I use one of these when I need to tap off some Kero; I've bodged attached some more tube onto the open end on mine.

I either use a rotary hand pump or a diesel engine primer bulb.

The rotary hand pump for larger quantities, 205l barrel. The primer bulb for smaller amounts.

My local filling stations do kerosene at the pump reasonable enough so I keep a 20L jerry can for my heaters.

I prefer letting gravity do the work.....
I made this from some used 2" pipe a friend had given me.

Siphon? Kerosene is thin enough that it flows easily.

Rather than risk a mouthful of heating oil, I'd use one of these syphon pump.

I've used those in the past and found them to last all of five minutes.

I use a 12v electric transfer pump....it's a bit fast!

Hang on. I think I have such a thing from the Middle of the supermarket that shall not be named .... hmmmm.

i stayed on a wee farm once that kept their red diesel in an IBC... to get some out you simply... but very carefully crack the big valve at the bottom, and catch the diesel in an old salad bowl, and from there into a jerry can... he was a rather chaotic man!!

Nearly all stations in NI have Kero at pump and its a little pricier than bulk oil delivery per L as may be expected. Say about 90p /L at pump at present not sure but will be filling a 20L jar shortly for my garage heaters.

I'd rather that than mess with my oil tank as that could lead to spills or oil loss if something is fitted to get small qtys out then fails say.
