I've used those in the past and found them to last all of five minutes.Rather than risk a mouthful of heating oil, I'd use one of these syphon pump.

I use a 12v electric transfer pump....it's a bit fast!

That sounds like an 3rd world country method usually ending in a reduction of the local population.i stayed on a wee farm once that kept their red diesel in an IBC... to get some out you simply... but very carefully crack the big valve at the bottom, and catch the diesel in an old salad bowl, and from there into a jerry can... he was a rather chaotic man!!![]()
