I started this thread in the Introductions, but thought I'd carry it on here for now. Bought a Butters Weld Wizard (great bit of kit) a couple of weeks ago as I'm building a Mk2 Escort rally car andhave never welded before. Here are a few photos of my welding, secret seems to be GOOD CLEAN SHINY METAL, this is thin metal technique.

Very similar project to yours, I'm interested to know how you fitted your drip rails, I was going to plug weld mine, also noticed you cut them before the last 6" to the bulkhead, are you going to fabricate your own ends??. If you have more photos of the front end I would love to see them for ideas.

As it was only the top edge of the drip rail that was needing replacement, I cut and trimmed the new piece and butt welded along the side. (As my confidence with my welder has improve, I butt weld as much as I can for a tidy finish. I've even gone back and re-done some earlier repairs to get it right!). At the moment they are still just tacked in place, until I get the bonnet back on and sit the wings in place to double check I got the measurements right. Found the last 6" of the new panels not a good fit, and were making it difficult to get the rest of it to line up, so "bit the bullet" and cut them off. When the wings are clamped back on and lined up, I'll fabricate pieces to fit in, based on the bits I cut off the ends.
