Getting a Lorch HandyTig - some questions...

I'm about to buy a HandyTig AC/DC 200 .

in the brochure is mentioned: connection to the grid is single phase. Does it also have a three-phase connection possible? or is it single-phase only?

I have a lorch X350 as well. I'm using a miller wire feeder 12VS with this lorch to weld FCAW .
Will the handytig also be able to be used in combination with this suitcase?

HandyTig is only for use on 230v single phase

From what I can see it's a 16 amp, 240volt, single phase AC supply welder. If you only have access to 3-phase at that current it's simple to just wire up a socket to any two of the conductors to give you a single phase supply. When I ran my chippy we only had 3-phase coming into the shop which was split through 3 meters to give us 3 separate single phase supplies.

Connecting across 2 phases will give you 415V which a 230V welder will probably object to.

Thanks for the replies. single phase only it is then, no prob. It's mostly going to be used on location, so that was a must.
Would have been nice to be able to use 3phase power as well in my workshop, but I've got other machines there.

Anyone care to shere his experience on the other question?

Will the handytig also be able to be used in combination with this suitcase?

I work for Lorch and I have never seen any of our Tig units used to power a suitcase feeder. I am not sure it would give the enough voltage for mig welding. The X is specifically designed to do this where as a general Tig machine is not

OK, that sounds logic. I was only asking, because at work we have many lorch units (all used in the field, powered from small gensets, in all kinds of circumstances) and they are up to amazing things.

Been playing with my new HandyTIG 200 AC/DC a bit.
works nice, especially with the i-TLW torches.

one question though (for now): why is up and downslope a parameter that is expressed in % ? it's a % of what? is it the slope?
Can anyone shed some light on this, and what would be recommended settings for welding 3mm (1/8") aluminum ?

The downslope is expressed like that as it is controlled "synergically" by the machine based on whether your welding in DC or AC mode and how many amps you have selected as your main welding current.

I forget the ratio of the top of my head, but 100% is x amount of seconds downslope per x amount welding current. If you want to override this then you can increase past 100% to give a longer slope down or decrease below 100% to give a shorter one.

In any case the display window will switch between showing you the percentage and how many seconds that would relate too given the welding current you have selected.

OK. I don't remember what the factory settings were for up and downslope, but it should be 100% if I understand you correctly.
I played with it a bit too much, I guess.
Will try 100% (for both) and report back.

If you stuck you can do a master reset which will make everything back to factory settings by pressing the up arrow furthest to the right and the button with a number 1 on it furthest to the left. Hold both together for about 5 seconds

AC Balance is expressed in % (standard 50% , from 10 => 90 %)
is this % positive half-wave % (e.g. 90% is 90% positive) ? I guess it is (similar to other brands), but this isn't clear in the manual... it might as well be % negative... a hint for those that might have an influence about the content of the manuals ;-) !
