Also would you say that for a disk and hub with no visible damage it is something worth doing still?

I would, part of the reason I machined them into an adjustable vernier to lock the cam timing at a set position was because they're known to have issues with them breaking/seizing and causing a lot of damage if the engines are used hard for race use.

If your original has lasted this long, why not go with another disc from BMW?

It is not the disk that fails, visually there is nothing wrong with the disk or hub I have. The problem is the potential risk of the tabs snapping off the hub that locates in these holes and causing potentially catastrophic failure. Redrilling the holes to slightly smaller diameter is meant to reduce the free play between the two parts, I guess reducing the shock when the load is altered/reversed.

The picture below is off the web showing a hub with one broken tab, it has been known for both to break off and these bits can then rattle round the timing chain etc destroying the engine

That seems like some iffy "engineering" right there.

It doesn't seem the smartest, especially when you consider the possible consequences if it fails.
