Got one of these in work recently, the welder works very well but the generator is very odd some grinders work others don't, sometimes one or other of the 16amp 110v outlets will work sometimes not.

Anyway after a lot of head scratching and return to the supplier it turns out it is a dc supply only! Has anyone ever came across a dc angle grinder I could use on this machine.

Most angle grinders have universal motors, ie they have an armature with a commutator & brushes and field coils and should work off AC or DC.

If you have a motor with brushes and a permanent magnet it will work off DC and maybe AC, otherwise on AC it'll just sit there humming.

Ones with fancy electronics such as soft start, variable speed, brushless motors &c will only work according to what it says on the rating plate.

All of our grinders are metabo and none of them seem to want to run properly or at all.

I've found one on their website that specifies that it will run on ac/dc and is suitable for use on 120v dc. Do you think this would work? before I recommend it to the boss.

Should work fine.
As rtbcomp said any basic angle grinder should work in theory, if its just switch, brushes and motor. Any speed controller, soft start or anything complex isn't going to like a Dc supply.
Some suppression filtering capacitors wont be to happy with a DC supply either.
