So I have one of these Genset 300amp generator/welder things, now today I gave it its first real test.
Turned the engine speed right up, set the amps about 90 and tried with a 3.2 rod, the rod was glowing!....even with the rpm turned down it still seems too hot.
It seems to get it to work right i have to turn the rpm so it regisers 175v on the gauge then fiddle with the amps to get it to run right, but it doesn't really seem smooth.
I have the earth through the "-" and the rod/hand-piece on the "+"
What am i doing wrong?.....I thought it had to be run full tilt then twiddle the amperage for welding
Down on the frame there's a small earthing stud with nothing attached, what is this for?
