generators to run mig vs stick?

Hi guys again av giv up hope of them tig tickets..but i currently work in coachworks building
tipper bodys mild steel ..the reason for my post is bits of outside work i can get which i would like to make full time
e.g body repairs ,fences and general lighrt fabrication so my question is what generator would be cheapest to run a mig or stick welding up to 6mm and can u get same results of stick as mig any replys be gud about to go start up now or never .. chrz who ever takes time to read and reply..thanks...

I've got a Honda 3.3 kva Gennys that quite happily runs a clarke 100 en
I've also got a 2.2 with the same Honda engine and that won't run the mig

For mobile smaller welders say up to 200 amp your looking at 7 kva or over. It should also have automatic voltage regulation
The welding plant should be checked before purchase that it's compatible with generators and what size generator

BTW it's mostly better to run off long leads rather than a Genny
Put a surcharge on off grid and it will pay for hire rates or the thing will get moved to a power source by the client

ummmm personaly i don't like AVR genorators. welders just kill avr

i would allways go for diesel genorator as well, i have a 5.5 kw genorator with a lambardini engine ( hatefully loud thumpy things ) but it will run a 200 amp mig happily on 0.8 mm wire and manage same machene running on 1mm wire just.

my 7 kw pertol genorator won't have it, well when you strike the ark it tends to bog down and have a right funny turn ventualy it regains it's sense of humor but it's just not nice to use. tho this genorator handels the stick set better.

tho my preferd genorator is an old genset it's 10 or 12 kw 3 cylinder water cooled, runs the stick runs the mig better than the mains is some places, coupled with a transformer mig ( there is no avr to burn out in the genorator ) and there is nothing that a bit of wonkey voltage will hurt int he transformer mig. for the stick welder go with an inverter but don't get the el cheepo ones, the better inverter sticks are for more tolerant when it comes to input voltage so again don't need avr.

All my welders are inverters and run sweet as on my sdmo 10kva Honda set.
No AVR on it. Inverters will tolerate that fine if it's generator friendly

You will find many companies stipulate in the welding plant details that arv is required
