I used to use a good quality 2cyl Lister 6Kva generator to power an arc welder, It did ok but coulda done with a bit more power when burning 3.25sAnyone tried these Chinese 5 kw Diesel generators that are sold under loads of brand names for powering a small welder, did you have any luck and what machine would it power?
they are brilliant little engines, got 5 of them on different machines on the farm! The Yanmar L100 is fitted to 180 amp welder generators so it must be capable of something.
Ive used my little inverter off one…….no issue at all. But not all welders are suitable for generators!I ran a Paton vdi-150p off a Hyundai branded generic asian diesel generator last night, worked perfectly and had bags of power. Would push 1/8th 7018 on 105a all night long, with tons of arc force and drive.
The same genset runs my minarcmig200 perfectly too...
Given that the input stage of 95% of inverters is a bridge rectifier followed by a capacitor bank, as long as the bridge rectifier is rated for any mains spikes (most are good to 300v+) then there’s no issue running them on any old junk power supply.Ive used my little inverter off one…….no issue at all. Something wrong with mine i can't track down, it bogs down to varying levels , seems like the governor is not responding right.
Some have AVR…..some dont, so cant cope with demand spikesI also have a 6kva that wont run a small inverter welder, someone on here explained why some will run welders and others wont but I am too thick to absorb what they were trying to explain. I can lift heavy things though.

I wonder if its something to do with the AVR, as the description on the warrior welding website for my genny saysOnly thing I’d add is when I borrowed @finyuk2005 ’s one, my 4 1/2” makita grinder wouldn’t always get it to rev up.
I’ve no idea why. Never had it before.
That said I was using a shindawa today and that wouldn’t rev off idle on a 4 1/2” grinder either so maybe it’s not a cheap engine thing……
