Generator Circuit Breaker meltdown

I belong to a voluntary group managing a small woodland and we have been given a Honda GX 160/Stephill 240/110v Generator. The 110v side works fine but the 240v doesn't. When I examined the electrics I found that the 240v circuit breaker connection covers looked like melted cheese - see picture. I have downloaded the wiring diagram and everything else looks OK.

Could a faulty circuit breaker have caused the fry up or is it symptomatic of a deeper problem?

Could have been a loose connection in the breaker but would look deeper before spending money on a new one. As a VERY temporary measure try connecting out and adding a bit of load (hair dryer or small heat gun type thing) and see if it works

just faulty connections replace it and it should be fine had anything else been wrong it would have tripped

Replace the connectors A & B too - they will have been weakened by the heat.

look deeper before spending money on a new one.

it wont be anything else there is no negative to it and apart from bad connections the only other reason would be to much current through it at which point it would have tripped or burnt out like it has if the breaker was faulty
