I am just finishing off a set of garden screens for a customer. Based on landscapes in the Yorkshire Dales.
Outline frame is 30mmx3mm box section, with a strip of 30x3mm inside it, the lines of the hillsides etc are 30x5mm strip edge bent. They measure 2.5x1.6m. Picture below.
I have been asked to make a gate in a similar style measuring about 1.6m square. Being hinged it will only be supported at one end, my concern is will it be stiff enough not to sag under it's own weight. figure I can layout the strip components to add some stiffness, and add some diagonal bracing in the corners, but I have to keep it as an ornamental piece. The gate has to have large plasma cut outs of racing cyclists in the middle of it.
Also anybody got any thoughts regards hinges.
Cheers all.
