ok so i am just starting out making gates and railings and am researching how much to sell my finished work for anyone do the same for a living and have pics and prices of there work? any help will do i cant really go knock on my 1 competitors door and ask what hes charging.

The house our lass has just bought belongs to a guy who does just that; I seem to recall he mentioned charging between £150 and NINE GRAND
Mind he does do automated gates as well, I bet that jacks the price up.

Why not just ring around a few competitors and ask for a price on a ficticious gate size. Will give you some idea.

Generally - 950ish for a set of manual bow top drive gates - galvanised and powdercoated and fitted. Price varys wildly on location, but a rough ball park figure. We also have to charge vat which tends to kill anything in the domestic market. Havnt done a domestic job for ages now.

That's what we did, go round a few competitors, ask for a price for a certain design you have. Repeat a few times and you start to get an idea where to pitch yourself.
Theres so many people doing gates and railings though - an extra tenner on the price can loose the job.

here's the last set i made, a real pain in the butt to make all the scroll work, but it did pay well.
I would say an average 12ft x 6ft high bow top gate galv, painted and fitted should be selling for £1000 to £1200. And you should be fit to build such and have it at the galvinisers within 2 days if you want any sort of a return for your effort.

thanks everone will get some quotes imaginary gates i need building. ghound how much did you sell that gate for and roughly how much profit if you dont mind me asking. nice gates by the way looks like a pain, all that scroll work.

Would the price you quoted above include the electrics for the gate ???

What sort of catch/handle is in the middle of the gates if any ???

electric gates dont usually have handles in the centre just a back or a dood dar in the floor to make sure they stop in the same place.
