Ive just finished building a small boundary fence between next door and i with a small gate in it, the posts are on their side and the gate hinges are fixed to one of the posts, the gate can only swing into their garden as the slats stop it from opening into mine with the loop and band style hinges I'm using.
I can't seem to find a latch suitable. An auto latch, Suffolk style or ring style on my side will all cause the gate to be permanently locked, they cannot be installed on back side as the lock bar would hit the other post. Unless I make a massive cranked arm for an auto latch.
Surely a suitable auto latch must exist for this? There are spring loaded bolts like on animal cages which would work if need be but I would like a handle on both sides if possible and I don't trust the postie to close it every day, that and laziness will end up wearing a groove in the post.
Basically I'm looking for something similar to an external version of a tubular door latch.
Any suggestions from the hive mind?
