Ok... I've had my wee Clarke 102NG for over a year now, bought to learn to weld and keep my old LDV Convoy in one piece.
It owes me nothing, but what The Sages on here told me is ringing true. For Automotive Body panels it stutters turned right to Min and can't cope, step it up to 2 and it's a bit too much. It works best on say 1.2mm up and will fry away pretty nicely even on 3mm Angle and Box.
Here's the thing.... I'm a hobby tinkerer and don't really NEED a nice welder.... but I just kinda want one!
What is a sensible long-term but occasional use hobby welder that offers solid value and performance for the likes of me?
WSD have the Parweld, Portamig and the Oxford Migmaker180... this last is what has really caught my eye as a Trad Transformer machine that seems good (£660 mind!) that welds down to 20A so.... will this do everything I might ever need and then some... or should I consider another?
(A Sealey Supermig 230 that's s/h but never even been assembled is on offer locally online for 300 quid... is this something to snap up (min 30A)?)
I need help (in so many ways)
