Gasless MIG?

Hi,
I have an telwin ARC welder 60-160amps and i´m always struggling with holes in metal (steel) like exhausts (1.5mm) at 60amp trying not to get very hot the welds are like crap!

so, i´m a hobby guy and i´m not welding a lot but i do need to weld somethimes 1mm sheets and so on (2.5mm and more i just pick the arc welder and go)

So, whatabout mig one Awelco for 150€? what type of fluxed core is really good?

As you have found out arc welding for thin metal and exhausts is not worth bothering, some people persevere and manage in the end but the hassle is more than it's worth.

Have you a problem obtaining gas because gasless is not nice either, it's messy, runs hotter than gas and wire is expensive and varies a lot in quality.

I can get on classifieds some co2 bottle (from beer) but here i can´t get some second hand gas mig welders under 400€, more 80€ of bottle!

i know gasless mig is messy but... do they do the job?

It will do it better than the arc set, that's for sure.

You will need a bit of patience and be prepared to clean up afterwards but you probably know that, I have only used gasless once and disliked it so much I never went back to it again, many do use it however and some manage their car body repairs/restorations work with it.

Sorry I can't advise on the best wire, someone else may come along that can.

Hey instead of thinking flux core can you get some innershield wire it's used gasless I rebuilt my whole exhaust on my truck I think it works great with my 110 sip mig

Is innershield wire not the same as flux cored gasless? The shield being the flux inside the wire?

I took my old gasless Clarke mig to work to fix things in the kitchen that the aldi buzz box is too fierce for it works but is messier than a gas mig more spatter

I want to investigate further but I'm under the impression that gas is needed for flux core and not for innershield,,,,

Innershield is a commercial name that Lincoln uses for their flux cored wires.

If you search in the catalog, they tell if gas is needed or not.
However there are flux cored wires self shielded (no gas) and flux cored wires gas shielded.

Lincoln electric example:
- flux core no gas : lincoln Innershield NR-211-MP

Sarto thanx for that information I was under the impression that they were two entirely different welding wires with flux core always needing gas,,,,
