Gasless MIG Tips & Wire

My 0.9mm roll ended today (machine came with this and a 1mm tip) After ringing around the local motor factors only have 0.8mm in stock - would this be ok to used with the 1mm tip or do I need to change the tip?

The 0.8 wire is more than likely going to be the type where you will need to use gas. You might need to make sure before you buy the reel of wire. Unless you can swap the welder over easily to use gas.

I have 0.8mm gasless wire loaded in my MIG welder at present, so it certainly exists. I have a 0.8mm roller and 0.8mm MIG tip fitted. I'd think that must be better than a 1mm tip, presumably because the wire needs reasonable contact with the tip to pick up the welding current just before arcing. The tips are cheap, like under £3 for half a dozen, so it must make sense to fit the correct size tips.
